Things to do in Sheung Wan

With Hong Kong island district's most eclectic range of coffee shops, art galleries, antique shops, fitness centres, street art, attractions, and markets, it can be hard to decide what to do in Sheung Wan on most days!

Numerous hours can be spent wandering the bustling and vibrant streets of Sheung Wan's attractions, coming across Man Mo Temple, the infamous cat street, the fragrant dried seafood street, and shopping along Wing Lok Street to name just a few pit stops.

Dive into Asian antiques, trinkets, and Chinese antique furniture (possibly dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties) tucked along Upper Lascar Row and numerous side alleys filled with Hong Kong antique shops. One can even indulge in the creation of personalised creative and unique perfumes at DK Aromatherapy on New Market Street.

The red brick Edwardian-style Western Market building is home to a number of delicious Sheung Wan restaurants, whilst countless other fine dining options and casual eateries line the busy roads, offering something for everyone.

Cafes in Sheung Wan are also plentiful, including local favourites such as Halfway Coffee and Elephant Grounds. More cafes and art galleries can also be found in Tai Ping Shan, a quaint area above Sheung Wan's street level.

The Sheung Wan neighbourhood comprises mostly compact apartments with savvy renovations of heritage buildings, to modern residential high-rises with facilities and smaller offices - so ranging from high-density, mid-to-high-rise, to older style and ultra-modern property offerings.

Transport

Whilst buses and taxis abound, being so close to Central means  walking is the most common and easiest way to get around. From the heart of Sheung Wan, Hollywood Road, Queen’s Road, Pedder Street and Des Veoux Road in Central are just a 10-minute walk. The Sheung Wan MTR station is on the main Island Line and Admiralty is an eight-minute taxi ride.

If you are venturing to neighbouring Macau for the weekend, Sheung Wan is also where the Macau Ferry Terminal is located in the Shun Tak Centre.

 

Amenities

Sheung Wan Hong Kong is a great place for socialising and working, with a colourful and sociable London/New York vibe. It has extremely easy access to main business districts and all transport networks in the city.

The district also hosts an array of international and local supermarkets and outdoor markets, medical facilities and pharmacies, high and mid-range retail, pre-schools, recreational facilities, spas, banks and – bordering the western end of Mid-Levels – has access to Hong Kong’s famous Mid-Levels Escalator, so ideal for pedestrians.
