Hong Kong has one of the
best transport systems in the world. The MTR and bus
systems
are extensive and easy to use and taxis are easy to come
by. Nearly all public transport accepts the use of Octopus
cards.
You can buy an ‘Octopus Card’ from any MTR
station or 711 convenience store. This electronic card
stores units in HKD, which can be added to as used. It
can be used for payment on the MTR, KCRC, buses, mini
buses and trams. It makes public transport incredibly
easy and user friendly. Octopus Hotline 2266-2266.
Taxi
Although it is easy to hail a cab on the street or go
to a taxi line, you can also call to book one. During
rain, storms or the morning peak hour you may have to
offer ‘extra money’ to get a booking.
Start with offering $10 and increase till you get one.

Mini
buses
The small green buses you see flying around are mini buses
and they cover much of Hong Kong Island. They have limited
seating, so if there are no seats available the bus won’t
stop to pick you up. Although there are some designated
stops, you can generally wave one down if it’s going
past you. To get off shout at the driver to stop ahead
‘ledo’ in Cantonese so he will stop to let
you off.
