Other sources to find a maid include friends leaving Hong Kong, the Dollar Saver Publication (www.dollarsaver.com.hk), local supermarket boards etc. An agency will help find amahs for you to interview that match your criteria e.g. experience with children, good cook etc.
Many amahs prefer to work with expatriate families. It is important when you are interviewing to understand what you are looking for in a maid and also what you want her to be responsible for. Always check references with past employers and if possible, speak to more than one past employer.
