In 2003, Habitat took part in the annual Stanley Dragon Boat Championships by proudly sponsoring the Lamma Dragons. Dragon boating, originally linked to the traditional Tuen Ng Chinese festival and the fishermen of the region, has now become an international sport.

Stanley, known by tourists across the world for its tightly packed streets filled with exciting shopping opportunities, is also known for its choice of restaurants and pubs, beautiful location and fresh air but, in recent years, it has also become famous for its annual Dragon Boat Races

Attracting more than 140 teams each competition over the last few years, the races are the highlight of the racing scene in Hong Kong, and are now recognized worldwide for the multinational makeup of the teams and the intensity and excitement of the competition.

This event which attracts individuals, clubs and companies as participants and thousands of locals and visitors, as sightseers eager to watch the exciting drama as these long, elegant, exotic boats thrust through the waves of Stanley Bay.

The Habitat Lamma Dragons comprised of two teams, the Men's and Ladies. This year the Ladies were trying to regain their championship they won in 2001, deciding last year to head off to participate in the Penang International Dragon Boat Championship instead. Historically the Ladies team has always been stronger than the Men's team...and this year was no different. The Habitat Lamma Ladies took top honours in the Ladies Championship but the Men's still did Habitat proud by coming 6th in the Expatriate Men's race (total 65 teams) and 13th (out of 113 teams) in the overall Men's Championship.
